Mutanda, A Secluded Base For Volcano Hikers

Mutanda Lake Resort is spectacularly located on a peninsula stretching into Lake Mutanda. With small islands dotting the surrounding lake and a backdrop of misty volcanoes in nearby Rwanda and DR Congo, this setting never fails to impress visitors.

Situated between Kisoro town, Mgahinga and Bwindi National Parks the Resort makes a perfect base for gorilla trackers, volcano hikers, bird lovers as well as those looking for a secluded place in nature.

The resort is a 45-minute scenic drive from Kisoro town, two hours from Kabale/ Lake Bunyonyi, 3.5 hours from Kigali, Rwanda and approximately one hour from the home range of seven different gorilla groups.

View from the road over L. Mutanda and Mt. Muhavura in the background.

The main building where the restaurant is located resembles a Swiss chalet with an African touch. The perfect place to enjoy a sun downer on the veranda watching otters visiting the shore, or to cuddle up next to the fire place.

The thirteen cottages are built on a wooden platform, each with private veranda and en-suite bathroom. The resort offers single, double/ twin and family or triple rooms with comfortable beds. And mosquito nets.

The cozy restaurant offers a breakfast buffet for both early trackers and late risers. Lunch can be ordered áa la carte or a hearty packed lunch for those going tracking or hiking. In the evening a 3-course menu is served, well-balanced with herbs and vegetables from the resort’s own garden.

Mutanda Lake Resort was awarded the "Uganda Tourism Excellence Award Best Mid Range Accommodation " 2017, by Uganda Tourism Board.
